Mid Summer 2008

In This Issue:

We won't have a meeting in July or August. It's nice after last summer's craziness with the Social Justice Series to take the summer off from meetings and enjoy the Michigan summer.

KALAMAZOO GUERRILLA GAY BAR NIGHTS

In KAFE's ongoing attempts to put the social back in social justice & the need to raise the visibility of the LGBT community in Kalamazoo - It was decided that every other KAFE meeting would be a social one - and that starting in September we would begin Kalamazoo Guerrilla Gay Bar: Guerrilla Gay Bar Campaigns are popping up all over the country. On one Friday of every month, GGB takes over the hippest straight bar they can findin their city. We don't tell 'em we're coming - we'll just show up - by the hundreds - and make ourselves at home. Trick is, we don't announce the straight bar until the day of the party - we don't wanna give the establishment a chance to find out about and tell us not to come. So, the only way to know where to go for the party is to sign up for our emails. A week prior to each event, we'll send out a message so everyone can save the date and invite friends, and we may (or may not) offer a clue as to the location. The actual location will not be announced until one day prior to each event, when we'll send out the full lowdown by message and on our website.

Word to the wise: The words 'takeover', 'revolution', and 'guerrilla' are used ONLY for fun, as in jest. We wouldn't do anything more in-your-face at straight bars other than buying beer and playing pool. It's an opportunity not to be ghettoized and have to go to a gay bar to be around gay pals (old and new). GGB does not condone any confrontational behavior. Remember it's about fun and mixing.

Please mark your calendars for the 1st Kalamazoo Guerilla Gay Bar Friday, September 26th -when the students are back into town - Kalamazoo Guerilla Gay Bar would then occur every Fourth Friday of every other month - the next one would be on Friday, November, 28. KAFE would hold its business meetings in October & December - everyone would then be welcomed to conclude the meetings at Food Dance for 'Tini Tuesday Nites.

Summer Fundraiser Canceled

Due to lack of interest in helping to plan and lack of time for a few us to put something together, we are canceling the summer fundraiser. Although, we would appreciate your donation by clicking the Donate button above to help make our new checking account healthy.

Equal Rights Ordinance

The Equal Rights Ordinance is winding it's way through the city bureaucracy and is on track for now. For more information on the Ordinance, see the Action Alert about this.
